Oliver Stauber has been appointed CEO of the future European division, the crypto exchange told Bits.media.
Prior to joining Bitget, Stauber served as Managing Director and CEO of KuCoin EU Holding, the Vienna-based representative office of the KuCoin crypto exchange. Previously, he also served as Chief Legal Officer at the crypto exchange Bitpanda. As a senior executive, Stauber was responsible, among other things, for licensing and regulatory affairs in several jurisdictions.
Bitget announced its intention to operate in compliance with the European Union's Market in Cryptoassets Regulation (MiCAR). The new executive's responsibilities include gaining the trust of regulators, Bitget explained. Europe remains an important region for the company, the crypto exchange assured.
New regulations for crypto exchanges in the European Union came into effect in January of last year. The European Banking Authority (EBA) has required cryptocurrency exchanges to provide information on participants in transactions of €1,000 or more. This includes the personal data of the sender and recipient. Service providers are required to store this information for five years.
