Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed reporters at the Capitol on Monday, claiming that Iran was producing hundreds of missiles per month and posed an unacceptable risk.
Rubio confirmed the imminent threat from Iran, telling reporters that the goal of current military operations is to destroy Iran's missile capabilities and naval assets.
The Secretary of State said the administration had notified Congressional leadership and the Group of Eight (G8) of the attack. He stated that while the US would like to see a new regime in Iran, regime change is not the explicit goal of this mission.
Rubio said the US is not currently prepared to deploy ground forces to Iran and confirmed that no diplomatic negotiations are currently underway with Iran.
The Secretary of State noted that the most significant strikes by US forces are yet to come.
Regarding the economic impact, Rubio stated that a program to mitigate energy costs will be implemented. He added that Finance Minister Bessent and Energy Minister Wright would present measures to ease oil costs.
