Crypto platform Binance is preparing to cease operations in the European Union as its operating license is expiring and the Greek financial regulator has not granted the exchange permission.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing Eleanor Hughes, the company's Chief Legal Officer.
Binance has applied for a license in Greece under the European Union's Markets in Cryptoassets Regulation (MiCA) in 2025. Crypto businesses must obtain a MiCA license in at least one EU member state by July, or they will be forced to curtail their operations in the region.
The company has not received official notification of refusal from the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC), but Binance plans to notify its EU clients of its possible exit as early as Tuesday, June 16, Hughes noted. "Regardless of the final outcome, our priority is to minimize any disruption or unnecessary harm to users and ensure they are treated fairly," she said.
