The dollar fell in response to a surprising US employment report

The dollar fell sharply in response to the key US nonfarm payrolls report.

The data showed a 23,000-job decline, compared to a forecast of 85,000. Furthermore, the previous month's figure was revised downward, from 57,000 to just 20,000.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 4.1% from 4.2%, despite the forecast not expecting a change in this indicator in July.

In response to the negative employment figure, the dollar index fell to 99.41, hitting a new low from mid-June amid waning expectations for a Fed rate hike.
