Taurus, a digital asset infrastructure company,
has completed connection to the Swift blockchain ledger and expects to launch production with its first clients in the coming days, Investing.com has learned.
The Geneva, Switzerland-based company has integrated Swift smart contracts with its asset tokenization and custody products, Taurus-CAPITAL and Taurus-PROTECT, within its permissioned blockchain infrastructure. The first transactions through the ledger are expected within a few weeks.
This solution gives Swift member banks access to tokenized deposits without the need to build their own infrastructure.
For institutions already using Taurus for digital asset custody and issuance, connection can be completed within a few days. Taurus is also targeting Swift members with no prior experience with digital assets.
The Swift ledger is designed to ensure that tokenized deposits remain on banks' own balance sheets, rather than displacing commercial bank balances—a key issue for organizations monitoring the penetration of stablecoins into cross-border payments.
Deposits issued by banks remain on these institutions' own ledgers, while Swift coordinates the movement of funds between participants, including overnight and on weekends. This coordination occurs until final settlement.
The ledger does not change Swift's role as a messaging network, and settlements continue to be conducted through existing mechanisms, such as real-time gross settlement systems. This means banks can expand the availability of payment services without abandoning their existing systems.
Swift unveiled the shared ledger at the Sibos 2025 conference. It was developed in collaboration with over 40 financial institutions and went from concept to launch in nine months: 17 pioneering institutions are already testing transactions with tokenized deposits.
