The Austrian banking group Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI)
has signed an agreement with Bitpanda that will enable its subsidiary banks in Central and Eastern Europe to offer crypto-asset services to their clients. Bitpanda will provide the technological infrastructure, according to the company's statement.
The group's banks serve approximately 18 million clients. RBI noted that the service rollout would be phased.
Citing a bank representative, Cointelegraph reported that the feature would first become available to clients in Albania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, with a launch scheduled for the first half of 2027. RBI emphasized that each bank within the group would determine its specific service offerings and implementation timelines based on local market requirements.
A similar service is already operational in Austria: since 2024, clients of the regional Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien have been able to buy and sell crypto-assets via the bank's app. Bitpanda also powers these transactions. The company provides cryptocurrency trading capabilities to clients of other banks as well, including Germany's N26.
