Bitcoin developers are looking to integrate Bitcoin payments into the Signal messenger.

Several long-time and staunch Bitcoin proponents, including Jack Dorsey, are working on integrating Bitcoin into the privacy-focused messaging app Signal.

@Signalapp should use Bitcoin," Dorsey wrote on social media on Thursday, retweeting a post by anonymous Bitcoin developer Cashu, who is behind the "Bitcoin for Signal" campaign.

The campaign has also received support from prominent Bitcoin developer Peter Todd, who wants BTC to replace or expand the capabilities of Signal's current crypto payment solution, MobileCoin.

"I've been wanting to try MobileCoin. But it's such a failure... Signal needs to accept reality and just add Bitcoin support," concluded Peter Todd.

Signal launched MobileCoin in April 2021, but the project has been criticized for excessive centralization and a limited set of validators. Given that Signal has approximately 70 million monthly active users, successful implementation of this idea could make it a significant platform for peer-to-peer Bitcoin transactions.

Incidentally, Jack Dorsey previously argued that Bitcoin would fail if used solely as a store of value and not for everyday payments.

However, this initiative has also found opponents who consider it inappropriate to use a public blockchain for a privacy-focused application.
