Ethereum's second-layer network, MegaETH, will launch on January 22

The long-awaited launch of the second-layer network of the Ethereum blockchain, MegaETH, will take place on January 22, 2026.

The platform's developers recently conducted tests and found that it can handle up to 47,000 transactions per second. Therefore, the programmers decided to conduct a global stress test and scheduled it to start on Thursday.

Users will have access to three gaming applications: stomp.gg, Smasher, and Crossy Fluffle, and the project team will conduct numerous ETH transfers and coin conversions to maximize the network's load and evaluate its capabilities.

MegaETH Test Report

The creators of MegaETH hope that during the global stress test, the mainnet's throughput will reach 15,000-35,000 transactions, and 11 billion transfers will be processed over the course of a week. But the developers won't stop there, as their goal is to create the world's first blockchain capable of processing over 100,000 transactions per second.

The purpose of such high throughput remains a mystery. For example, the Solana (SOL) network, popular among memecoin issuers, is theoretically capable of processing 65,000 transactions per second, but in practice, the blockchain processes 2,900-4,700 transactions per second. It's unlikely that MegaETH will surpass Solana in demand, so the super-powerful engine built into the second-layer network will be running practically idle.
