Trump announces creation of federal "AI Force"

U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans on Saturday to establish a federal "AI Force" and appoint a special "AI czar" to oversee the rapidly evolving technology sector.

He predicted that the industry could eventually account for up to a quarter of the nation's GDP.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed criticism directed at artificial intelligence and data centers, labeling it a political "hoax" orchestrated by opponents to stifle U.S. innovation. He pledged that his administration would protect the industry while utilizing existing civil and criminal enforcement mechanisms to address any violations.

"We will in no way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry. On the contrary, we will cherish it, help it, and oversee its development!" Trump wrote. "However, we will also look for the BAD—and that is very easy to do using the existing criminal and civil justice system."

New Oversight Structure for the Industry

Trump likened the proposed "AI Force" to the Space Force, a military branch established during his first term. While details regarding the new agency's structure and authority have not yet been released, Trump stated that he would appoint an "AI czar" in the coming days.

"Only people with high IQs need apply!" Trump wrote regarding the upcoming appointment.

These statements come amidst intensifying global competition in advanced technologies, infrastructure, and semiconductor supply chains. Trump emphasized that maintaining American leadership in AI over rivals like China remains a top economic and strategic priority. "AI is the next industrial revolution—or the next Internet—but it will be even larger and more significant, potentially accounting for up to 25% of our country's GDP," Trump added. "We are ahead of China and the rest of the world, and I intend to keep it that way!"

In the same series of posts, Trump addressed earlier criticism regarding the construction of energy-intensive data centers, arguing that these facilities bring tax cuts, wage growth, and economic prestige to local communities.
